The partnership between Rolling Tomato and Valor Pointe began prior to its opening in August 2020, when Julie reached out to the Valor Point staff sharing our mission and offering RT’s services to the future community. Valor Point is a 27-unit apartment complex that offers health care, mental health counseling, and substance use treatment to our community’s veterans who experience chronic homelessness. Services like Rolling Tomato are invaluable to this community that face income insecurity, transportation challenges, along with varying health issues. Mandy Anderson, Valor Pointe’s on-site case worker, expressed her gratitude to Rolling Tomato. "These individuals have served our country and for whatever reason became homeless, yet they continue to persevere. When you live homeless, you often don’t know when or where your next meal will come from. Rolling Tomato provides our veterans a sense of security by supplementing this basic need.” The residents also expressed their excitement and gratitude about their weekly food delivery. Tony, who served in the Navy, and an aspiring crock pot master is “very appreciative of the healthy meals and snacks as it helps me manage my diabetes.” The prepared salads are his favorite! Jeff, retired Air Force, shared that “we save the fruit for the women, while the men in the building enjoy the meat options. The price of meat is so high these days so anything we can get is great”.
